FRIT 7739 Week 3

This week has been quite busy to say the least. In last week's blog, I explained how we were preparing for our school's device rollout. Well this week it all came to life. We distributed close to 1000 devices to students. Next week, we will repeat the process. Our biggest issue in device deployment was that many student did not complete the required Digital Citizenship lesson and assessment or their parents did not sign the Device User Agreement. I ended up creating three QR Codes for students to help guide them in getting their device next week. We had plenty of teacher volunteers as well as our Glad Tech students help out during both lunches. Attached are a few pictures from the big day! TOTAL HOURS: 7

FRIT 7739 Week 2

What a busy week here at school! Yesterday, the county [pleasantly] surprised us and brought us our devices one week early! Our school is a 1 to 1 technology school; therefore, every teacher and student in the school has their own Microsoft Surface. We only had the devices for a few months last year before school dismissed for summer, so teachers and students were anxiously awaiting their arrival back in the classroom. With the help of Glad Tech students (our school's student tech support organization) and IT, we were able to count and unpack 2,051 devices, pens, and chargers. I must admit, I didn't realize so much manual labor went into this side of the job. My musc...

FRIT 7739 Week 1

Taking on the role of Instructional Technology Coach has been incredibly tiring, but also very rewarding. When I accepted the position, I was nervous I would not feel professionally or emotionally fulfilled since I would not be working with students and opening their minds to learning and knowledge. Several people warned me that "adults are not as enjoyable to work with." Well, the students may be a tad funnier, but other than that, I have loved working with my teachers! I have had several moments that made me feel fulfilled and appreciated, such as when I showed one teacher how to track her data for IEP's using OneNote Class Notebook or when I showed another teacher who is currently out on maternity leave how to use Office Mix to stay connected with her students. The week prior to the first week of school, I coordinated with two Microsoft Educators, our METI, and our Assistant Principal to plan a Professional Development for teachers so they could create and design their...
